Love it or hate it, Pokemon Go turned out to be a huge hit on mobile platforms and generated millions in revenue for all involved parties. So it should come as no surprise that another Pokemon mobile game is being launched, releasing tomorrow in Japan before heading to other territories in due course.
We first heard about this game back in February when a teaser website appeared making it clear Magikarp, the most useless of Fish Pokemon, will be the focus. Development is being handled by Japanese developer Select Button and the game is called Splash! Magikarp.
That's all we knew until today, but thanks to Siliconera, we now know exactly what to expect in terms of gameplay.
Splash! Magikarp is all about training your Magikarp to "Splash" higher. The game is set in Hop Town, which is full of people dedicated to Splash-ing Magikarp. Gameplay will involve the player training their Magikarp as well as ensuring it eats well. Only by doing both can your Pokemon have a chance of competing.
As this is a mobile game that's inevitably going to generate its revenue from microtransactions, expect a lot of extras. They include many different types of Magikarps including rare finds. Popular Pokemon such as Pikachu, Piplup, Rowlet, and Charizard will also make appearances and potentially stick around.
There's random events to take part in, items to find and/or unlock depending on your Splash performances, and decorations to collect. Those decorations can be used to modify the look of the Splash! Magikarp home screen, which sounds like something you'll want to show your friends regularly.Read More...
