Bangladesh bowler Sujon Mahmud conceded a massive 92 runs from just four balls in a Dhaka Second Division Cricket League match on Tuesday (11 April).
Mahmud, who is the opening bowler for Lalmatia, only bowled four legal deliveries and conceded 92 runs in an over when Axiom Cricketers were batting; with 65 runs coming from wide balls, 15 runs coming from three no-balls and the other 12 runs coming from his four legal deliveries.
The bizarre bowling spell is believed to have been a protest against the umpires, who gave unfair decisions against Lalmatia. Axiom, who were chasing 88 runs, were able to win by 10 wickets in less than an over.
"It started at the toss," Lalmatia general secretary Adnan Rahman Dipon said, as quoted on The Dhaka Tribune. "My captain was not allowed to see the coin and we were sent to bat first and as expected, the umpires' decisions came against us."
"My players are young, aged around 17, 18 and 19. They could not tolerate the injustice and thus reacted by giving away 92 runs in four deliveries."
When asked if there were any officials to stop the players from their actions, Dipon claimed that Lalmatia already knew the game would be decided by the umpires.
"We (Lalmatia team) knew that the outcome of the game will be negative due to which most of the officials and senior players did not appear for the game," he added. "Even my regular captain did not show up for the game. I only got to know of the incident once the game got over in just 14 overs."
