Keith Urban is the leading nominee for the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards.
Urban, who released his popular “Ripcord” album in May, is nominated in seven categories including Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year for “Ripcord,” and Single and Song of the Year for “Blue Ain’t Your Color.”
Country music’s women earned a strong — but not equal — reception from ACM voters with Miranda Lambert and Maren Morris tying for six nominations each. Lambert and Morris are both nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and Single of Year. Lambert’s “Vice” is nominated for Song of the Year and Video of the Year. Morris is nominated for New Female Vocalist of the Year. Kelsea Ballerini and Carrie Underwood have two nominations each. Underwood is the only female in the Entertainer of the Year category and both women are nominated for female vocalist of the year.
Tim McGraw and Florida Georgia Line both clocked five nominations. McGraw is listed in categories including Single, Song and Video of the Year for “Humble and Kind” and Vocal Event of the Year for “May We All” with Florida Georgia Line.
FGL members Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard are up for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year for “Dig Your Roots,” Vocal Duo of the Year, Single of the Year for “H.O.L.Y” and Vocal Event of the Year.
Other multiple nominees include Thomas Rhett, Chris Stapleton and Dierks Bentley who are nominated for three awards each. Each of the three men is in the Male Vocalist of the Year category. Bentley’s “Black” is nominated for Album of the Year and his duo with Elle King “It’s Different for Girls” is up for Vocal Event of the Year. Rhett and Stapleton are both in the Song of the Year category. Stapleton’s third nomination is for Video of the Year.
First-time ACM nominees include Morris, Kane Brown, Chris Lane, LOCASH, Jon Pardi, Cassadee Pope and Brett Young.
Diverse vocal collaborations in 2016 opened the door for many non-country singers to score their first Academy of Country Music nominations. Rhiannon Giddens is nominated for “Kill A Word” with Eric Church, King is nominated with Bentley for “It’s Different for Girls” and Pink is nominated with Kenny Chesney for “Setting the World on Fire.”
Co-hosted by Entertainer of the Year nominee Luke Bryan and Bentley, the 52nd Academy of Country Music Awards will air live from Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena 7 p.m. April 2 on CBS.Read More...
